From Our House to Yours
2004-2008
2004-2008
The holiday season is once again here
And my annual message is behind by 5 years
As before, I want to do it in verse
So hopefully this comes off better than worse
Like Desperate Housewives that skipped five
Here's a quick recap of our lives
2004 - "Me (Barb)"
Grandmothers went on a cruise with Myles
Of course accompanied by Greta and Charles
Joined "match dot com" in search of that special male
Took the Fast Ferry to Toronto before it went up for sale
In September I turned the big ‘six oh’
I'm still wondering where did all the time go
And a month later much to my surprise
I met the man who put stars in my eyes
It took a little while for us to meet
"Good cook a plus" didn't sweep me off my feet
Laura moved to Boston in two thousand and four
Marketing Manager is the sign on her door
2005 - "Me" is now "We"
February brought Hunter on the scene
A sweet little boy with the red-headed gene
Cross country skiing, Mexico too
We were very busy with so much to do
I rented my house and moved in with Larry
He was unlike the average Tom, Dick or Harry
Golf was a game I needed to know
So we could play together when there wasn’t any snow
A trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake
One of the get-away weekends we’d take
We went down to Gerry's in South Carolina
Lounging by the pool, never using fine china
Twenty years I worked without a break
Time to celebrate with food and cake
Thanksgiving had all the families here
Twenty-seven for dinner and lots of good cheer
The year was perfect in every way
We kept looking forward to each new day
2006
This was the year of even more travel
We were busy but never unraveled
Cross country ski trips, Ottawa's Winterlude too
We never lacked for something to do
Two granddaughters graduations we did attend
One in Atlanta and one at this end
A party for Larry for the bigger ‘seven oh’
Thank goodness I still have a ways to go
I sold my house, we didn't need two
Our days of being single were certainly through
Michael and Doris started the wedding trend
It took a year for that trend to end
Thanksgiving this year was just two for dinner
We made all the courses, our turkey a winner
A year even better than the one before
If only Larry didn't snore ;-)
2007
Tucker arrived on January five
Ever since, we've been watching him thrive
For Laura and Greta I made bridesmaid dresses
They came out great but oh the stresses
April 21st was our wedding day
Then two weeks in Mexico just to play
My job went to India for their support
So I decided to cut my career short
Then Marge and Darren tied the knot
St Pete's in August was really hot
Went South again on a long road trip
And the end of the year found us on a ship
We said good bye to our faithful Molly
That was a day we did not feel jolly
Another year has come to a close
Maybe I should have done this in prose
2008
No new babies or graduations this year
But thankfully the end of this poem is near
Snow was sparse but winter golf was in our reach
We coached Special Olympics skiing and practiced on the beach
We took to the South again, in winter this time
Visited family and Hilton Head and it was sublime
Spent April in The Villages for the over fifty-five
No need for an auto, with a golf cart to drive
Visited more family doing the New England loop
Then on to Pittsburgh to see that group
Got together with Barb's side for Emily's wedding
This family group is certainly spreading
Thanksgiving in Georgia at Lake Oconee
Sightseeing, visiting but no shopping spree
As Christmas is approaching, much too quickly we must say
Let us send you our greeting before the big day
May your health be outstanding and your family's too
May you share time together the entire year through
May your joys be many and your sorrows few
These are the wishes we send to you
And one more thing that would make us whoop
Is if our portfolios would quickly recoup
Happy Holidays
